A Coincidence
Remember a few weeks ago I posted the Stanford Daily article about Scott Turow’s talk at Stanford Campus. Turow was featured in Deadline. That same article listed a Professor who teaches a seminar on campus:
His class, “The Death Penalty: Human Biology, Law, and Policy,�? has grown from about 40 students when the class started in 2002 to 96 students enrolled this quarter.
I emailed the Professor and told him that Deadline would be screening this Saturday on campus at the United Nations Association Film Festival. He immediately emailed back and said that he had been looking for this film to show in his class for months! Apparently, he represents a death row inmate in the South who saw the film when it aired on NBC’s Dateline. The Professor tried to locate it on their website, but didn’t have luck.
After a few more emails and a short meeting (I offered my copy of the DVD for a few days) the Professor showed the film to his class (nearly 100 students). After the screening he emailed me and said it had made a huge impression on the class and that he planned to purchase the film for future use.
I felt like it was a great series of coincidences (Scott Turow speaking, The course mentioned in the article, the effort the Professor had made to get the film, the Screening of the film on campus, the DVD that I had just recieved in the mail...). It also made me realize that with a little bit of effort the film can be seen by hundreds of people...and that's a good feeling!

I didn't know that one of his clients saw the film on death row! Wow! That is really the power of such a huge broadcast. Say what you will about the huge networks they really have impact.
