A David Wong Update

Today, Judge Giardino issued a ruling that dismissed the murder charge against David Wong! Based on preliminary reports, the judge indicated in a four-page opinion that he believed if a retrial had taken place, the jury would have acquitted David Wong.With today's decision, the criminal case that the David Wong Support Committee has focused on since 1990 is completed. We have prevailed and won a complete dismissal of David's wrongful conviction for the 1986 murder.
However, new issues have now arisen -- David has immigration legal issues and must fight a prior deportation order. The campaign to stop the deportation is in full gear. David's many supporters are ready to act, have contacted several immigration attorneys, and have met with the Chinese consulate.
Shortly, we will post an online petition on the immigration issues at our web site (www.freedavidwong.org). Tonight, David Wong's immediate status is unclear. He is probably being held in Plattsburgh, New York and could be taken away at any moment by immigration officials to an immigration detention facility. We will post updates on David's status and location on the web site as soon as we can.
