Amnesty Asks India To Abolish Death Penalty
NEW DELHI: An international human rights organization has asked India to abolish death penalty and demanded that Britain take up the issue during the India-EU summit."As the largest democracy in the world, India should lead by example in human rights protection in Asia by abolishing the death penalty," Amnesty International said in a statement.
The organization said it had sent a briefing paper to the U.K. Presidency of the EU raising concerns about the use of death penalty in India and detailed cases such as the hanging of Dhananjoy Chatterjee last year.
