An Interesting Turn of Events in Ohio:
The Republican Rep. Tom Brinkman, surprised many of his colleagues this week by suggesting a amendment regarding the death penalty.
The governor and legislature would appoint an 18-member commission to look at whether those on death row received adequate legal counsel, whether capital cases are resolved fairly, and how delays in the system can be overcome.
"I am 100 percent pro-life," Brinkman said, noting that applies to abortion and the death penalty.
With heavy Democratic support, Brinkman's amendment passed 64-30, but not before some spirited debate among members, including Rep. Jim Hughes, R-Columbus, who said, "I'm very much pro-death."
I would find it hard to say that I'm "pro-death" in any context. I also find it bizarre that Brinkman equated abortion with the death penalty. Do you?

I don't think it's odd at all, in fact it's kind of a Catholic party line (if you can call being Catholic "a party"). Wasn't this similar to the reason that Turow cited that Capital Punishment was not a headline issue in the campaign? This actually makes MORE sense to me than people who are pro-life and pro-death penalty.
