CPADP Screens Deadline in Harrisburg, PA

On Friday, March 11, Central Pennsylvanians to Abolish the Death Penalty hosted a screening of "Deadline" at an art gallery in downtown Harrisburg.  Several local media outlets provided pre-screening publicity.  The film critic from the Harrisburg newspaper, The Patriot News, mentioned the film as a "top pick" for the weekend.

About 25 people attended the screening, which filled the room.  CPADP President Andy Hoover spoke briefly before the film started and told the audience that while the film focuses on Illinois, we have similar problems with the death penalty in Pennsylvania.  Fittingly, a spokesman for the Center for Wrongful Convictions stated late in the film that these problems do exist in other states.

The crowd was definitely engaged.  When Governor Ryan announced the commutations, one audience member leaned over to her neighbor and said, "I want to jump up and clap, too."  Afterwards, the tech assistant for the night noted that it was a "very well-made documentary".  Hoover closed the event with a few more comments about the death penalty.  CPADP promoted its own activities, as well.
