Dead Man Walking In High Schools and College

Tim Robbins has adapted his award-winning film based on the book by Sister Helen Prejean, Dead Man Walking, into a stage play that will be licensed to Jesuit schools and universities.

"The Dead Man Walking School Theatre Project" will have its world premiere at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, California on October 22nd. The premiere of the play is part of a year-long examination of the death penalty by the NDNU School of Arts and Humanities Center for Social Justice.

Jesuit High School in New Orleans, LA was one of the first high schools in the country to be awarded the rights and will be performing the show from October 15-16 and 22-23. Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana passed on it. Georgia Gresham, chair of Loyola's drama and speech department said, "the previous year we had done 'A Lesson Before Dying', another Louisiana play on the death penalty."
