Debating the Death Penalty

There's an interesting debate published in the The Madison Eagle called, Death penalty: A moral and effective punishment?

Here are a few slices taken from the debate:

POINT:

It is hardly inexpensive to warehouse dangerous convicted murderers for 30, 40 or 50 years, at taxpayer expense. Further, these individuals have shown themselves to have so little disregard for human life; they would be a permanent risk to other inmates, staff and guards at any prison which housed them. After all, if they have life with no possibility of release, and they cannot be put to death, what do they have to lose?

COUNTERPOINT:

The culture of death comes too easily to too many people. The disregard for the value of life is played out on city streets in cities like Camden and Newark and Detroit as if it was nothing more than a 50 cent video game.

We are all responsible if an innocent person is executed by the state and very few cases are absolutely air tight.
