North Carolina Leaders Call For Death Penalty Moratorium

RALEIGH, N.C. -- A diverse group of state leaders called for an immediate suspension of the death penalty Monday. Secretary of State Elaine Marshall and other prominent North Carolinians said they do not trust the current system. Under a new bill, the General Assembly would review capital punishment in North Carolina over a two-year period. Many believe race and class played a major role in how the death penalty was imposed.
