NY is in LIMBO- Call to Action!
The New York Times ran an article on Saturday stating that death penalty cases across NY are in limbo because the legislature has not acted to bring the death penalty back.
The Assembly will be watching the response to this article very closely, so now would be a good time to flood the Times with letters!
The NYADP has drafted a letter to make it EASY TO TAKE ACTION:
Here is a sample letter to send to the TIMES.
Deadline for letters is Saturday August 28, but please send your letter today, tomorrow, or Wednesday at the latest, if possible. Email it to: letters@nytimes.com.
Thanks so much!

MODEL LETTER
*******************
To the editor:
With our death penalty in limbo ("Across New York, the Death Penalty stuck in Limbo", August 21), we should take the time to consider what New York’s death penalty experiment has taught us.
In the ten years since New York brought the death penalty back, we’ve spent over $170 million to carry it out, yet no executions have taken place. The system has been shown to be racially biased and geographically disproportionate. Across the country, over 100 people have been sentenced to death and later found innocent. Here in New York, innocent people have been convicted of murder. We’re lucky that none of those innocent people ended up on death row.
The legislature is right to take its time weighing the options. Their final decision should be that New York doesn’t need the death penalty at all.
Sincerely,
Your name

Your phone number (required)
[Simply email this letter to letters@nytimes.com ASAP. If they decide to print your letter, they will contact you to confirm that you wrote it. That is why it's a good idea to alter a few or more words and make it your own.]
