Shocking Maryland Death Row Statistics
While researching screenings in Maryland, one of our outreach "target states", I came across some unbelievable information on Maryland Coaliton Against State Execution's website.
The following statistics are from The University of Maryland's 2 1/2 year study on the death penalty which was released in January of 2003.
Maryland's death row is one of the most racially biased in the nation. 69% of the men on death row are African American.
100% of the murder victims of the men on death row are White. This is true even though African Americans persistently constitue over %80 of the victims of homicide in the state of Maryland.
We will be organizing screenings for legislators and community members in Maryland's swing juristictions over the next few months. If you have any suggestions or would like to get involved in this state's outreach campaign please let us know.

I am extremely close to a person on Maryland death row. Most people who have an opinion on the DP have no contact or idea about the inmates in question. Pro DP supporters in general usually have had no involvement with either a victim or an inmate. I for one have been involved on both sides of murder. It is certainly not pretty, but certainly the DP is morally wrong. If you want to jump on the pro DP wagon, I would suggest that you get to know an inmate and see if your views alter. As for the YOU HAVE BEEN EXPOSED comment, big deal, it is a small death row, but it is racially biased across the US none the less and Maryland is no different in that respect. I would be interested to know exactly what Roger D's involvement with DR has actually been! I would imagine not a great deal.

I did support the Dp growing up. Then when I was 18 and a man(Killer... not a man) decided he wanted to murder and sexually assualt the most beautiful woman, body and mind. She was seventeen, just trying to make a few more dollars for college. JOHN ALBERT MILLER IV strangled her. He deserves to die. Apparently Maryland wants to jump on the bandwagon and be weak. SHE WAS 17! He killed her and threw in the back seat of her car. Tell me why this man deserves to live.
