The Unexpected Happened
When I came home tonight, I knew I would find out the Governor's decision regarding Francis Newton. Either Texas Governor Rick Perry was going to follow the state parole board's recommendation to put her execution on hold while her lawyer pursues other evidence---or he wasn't (and she was scheduled to be executed today).
Well, the unexpected happened. Governor Perry granted a reprieve. Her lawyers now have 120 days to "have the ballistics evidence used at Newton’s trial retested and to investigate the quality of her original legal defense."
