Time on Death Row
A super interesting article about the length of time prisoners spend on death row in the United States.
Death row inmates in the U.S. typically spend over a decade awaiting execution. Some prisoners have been on death row for well over 20 years. This raises the question of whether death row prisoners are receiving two distinct punishments: the death sentence itself, and the years of living in conditions tantamount to solitary confinement – a severe form of punishment that may be used only for very limited periods for general-population prisoners.

I recently learned that people are moving prisioners to new facility called "supermax" facilities which like you mentioned are solitary confinement facilities. The hope is to get prisioners to volunteer to be executed.

What does it really mean to be on death row??
Think about it!!! They get FREE MEALS, FREE MEDICAL ATTENTION, FREE FOOD, and FREE SHELTER!!!
Who pays for this?? The every day person!!! We pay for them to have all this and yet there are many homeless people!!, many who are sick and dying with nothing!!! Yet, we continue to spend good money on people who are on death row!!!
You may think I am heartless and a cruel person to say these things!! But look not that they are on death row!!! LOOK AT WHAT THEY DONE TO GET THEM THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! If someone kills another person and they get put on death row and never killed -- SAYS THAT IT IS OK TO KILL!!!! YOU WILL PROBABLY NEVER BE KILLED!! AND EVERYTHING YOU NEED IS YOURS!!! By never executing these prisioners the jails will stay full and ever expanding -- while the message to kill is OK -- we just pay more and more ---
WHEN WILL THE MESSAGE TO KILL ANOTHER PERSON IS WRONG!!!! IF YOU KILL, YOU SHOULD NOT SPEND YEARS ON DEATH ROW!!! (THAT IS A JOKE!!!!) THEY SHOULD ONLY SPEND A FEW DAYS --- THEN EXECUTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHY SHOULD I PAY TO KEEP THEM IN PRISIONS??
I THOUGHT TAKING A LIFE WAS SERIOUS BUSINESS?
AND MOST OF ALL ---- WHAT KIND OF LIFE ARE WE LIVING FOR OUR CHILDREN AND THEIR CHILDREN!!! b IGGER DEBTS!! AND THOUSANDS OF JAILS FILLED WITH CONVICTS .......

I just sat in on a capital murder/death penalty case.My close friends daughter and boyfriend were brutally murdered. He was 24,she was 19. Parents of 2 small children. It was a learning experience for me.On one hand,I truthfully believe he should have got the Death Penalty, but on the other,I believe he should have to be put in population in a prison.Believe me,justice would be taken care of faster and cheaper than letting him live for who knows how many years while we are supporting him on death row.
