Welcome

Hi. Welcome to Deadline's official blog. This is where all the latest news about the film will be posted. The writers are either the filmmakers themselves or have been officially invited to post comments.

I worked on Deadline as one of the assistant editors for Kate Hirson last summer, and now I'm back this summer helping with Deadline's new webpage and anything else I can do to help. This is my first time posting for a blog. Although I read four or five blogs weekly, the thought of actually writing for one has always made me nervous. But now I find myself writing about two subjects that I am super invested/interested in: social-issue documentaries and the criminal justice system.

Deadline is definitely a film that goes onto my favorite film list. It's smart, challenging and sophisticated. It deals with a subject that I want to continue to learn more about and to become more involved with. Now that the outreach campaign has been launched, there's no shortage of opportunities to do so.

My first reaction after seeing the film, which was at the Roxie in San Francisco, was, “Wow. They did it…and they did an amazing job. I first worked on the film during the summer of 2003, when I transcribed many of the interviews (and there were binders full!) and helped Kate with her system for organizing the content for editing. I was also around for several brainstorming sessions between the filmmakers and Kate in the edit room, where tough decisions and new ideas were always being made. Then I went off to school, and four months later the film premiered at Sundance.

I've been back at Big Mouth Productions for just 3 weeks, and it's as busy as ever. The filmmakers have plenty of press to talk to, the NBC broadcast is extremely exciting and the launch of the website and the outreach campaign has kept everyone, well… busy.

And I have a feeling this is how it's going to be for quite some time.
